Current mirror — clearly explained This video explains the MOSFET current mirror from the ground up and shows why it is one of the most important circuits in analog IC design. The problem is first introduced: modern electronics often require a stable reference current (such as one generated by a bandgap circuit) that can be copied throughout a chip while remaining as independent as possible from temperature variation and supply voltage changes. The solution is then presented using the current mirror topology, where a diode-connected MOSFET sets a reference current and a second MOSFET replicates it. Step by step, the current mirror equation is derived, showing that the mirrored current depends primarily on the MOSFET geometry ratios.
